This house in Atwater Village had a typical, banal backyard – a patio directly off the house with a large patch of grass beyond. The patio cover needed to be redone and the client was interested in create diverse zones within the yard. A firepit / lounge uses the side of the garage and a tall screen to create an active public area. Large planters and tall grasses create a more intimate, sunken gravel area against the back fence. Between the two is a path that cuts off a visual connection between.
